[hr]Dr. Timothy Turner, chair of the Department of Biology at Jackson State University, is a recent recipient of the annual Diversity and Inclusion Awards ceremony by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning.

The event, held virtually this year during Black History Month, celebrates campus and community leaders for their efforts in advancing diversity and encouraging understanding and respect
IHL said Turner, who is also a professor in the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, is among a select number of distinguished faculty who were recognized. While he represented JSU, the board also honored a faculty member from each of Mississippi’s public universities and the community at-large for advancing and supporting underrepresented populations.
Dr. Turner was nominated for the prestigious award by Dr. Alisa Mosley, JSU’s provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. Over his career, Turner has contributed to bringing diversity to the field of science through his work with, and mentorship, encouragement and development of numerous undergraduates, graduates and faculty from underrepresented populations in their careers.
