FedEx will provide $1M to JSU to support educational efforts, aid in COVID-19 relief

[hr]Jackson State University will receive $1 million over five years from FedEx Corp. to support educational opportunities and employment equity. Initial funding of $200K has been designated to support students, faculty and staff as they navigate the COVID-19 crisis.

The remaining funds will support a broader collaborative program between FedEx and Jackson State.

FedExJSU President Thomas K. Hudson commended the organization for its investment in the University.

“FedEx has always been an innovator with a pulse on the future, and they recognize the importance of investing in education and the leaders of tomorrow,” Hudson said. “We are honored to receive this financial gift, as it will provide additional resources for our students as they navigate higher education amid a pandemic. We also look forward to collaborating further with FedEx.”

FedEx is focused on making the communities it serves more equitable by helping empower diverse voices and providing access to leadership, educational and employment opportunities.

Judy Edge, corporate vice president of Human Resources at FedEx, said, “With many students and families struggling right now as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, our hope is that this timely investment will help keep more students in school and provide future access to leadership, educational and employment opportunities.” She added, “This contribution further deepens our commitment to creating more equitable communities by breaking down barriers to work and making a sustainable, long-term impact on underrepresented groups.”

FedEx has a longstanding commitment to develop economic parity and inclusion for the African American community. It supports HBCUs through skills-training, mentoring and collaboration with leading national and local organizations.
