Hundreds attend JSU’s 2013 Transfer Assessment and Advisement Program

JSU_0262The annual Transfer Assessment and Advisement Program drew one of its largest crowds in recent years as students and parents packed the Jackson State University Student Center to learn how to make a smooth transition to JSU this fall.

JSU Provost James C. Renick, Ph.D., greeted the group of more than 200 who filled a ballroom in the center. Renick told them that JSU credentials are recognized worldwide.

“You can go places I could only dream about when I was in undergraduate school,” Renick said. “It’s all up to you.”

The program gives students an academic assessment and provides them with information about JSU. It’s an opportunity for faculty and staff to talk to students about the basics of college life and the process to get their credits transferred.

Cynthia Jones of Vicksburg brought her daughter, Nieshia Jones, to Thursday’s program. Cynthia Jones said the session is a necessity for transfer students.

“It’s important that she knows what she needs to get and what she needs to do prior to enrolling,” said Cynthia Jones, a 2009 JSU business administration graduate.JSU_0268

Nieshia Jones said she was looking forward to beginning classes in the fall. She’s transferring from Hinds Community College and will be a criminal justice major at JSU.
