Jackson State University’s Staff Senate announced on May 14 the selection of its third class of Staff Leadership Institute fellows.
Fourteen participants were selected from a competitive pool of campus-based applicants. The group will participate in an intensive three-month leadership development program that includes a series of training sessions, research, seminars and other events. The institute is targeting emerging leaders in higher education and seeks to build upon knowledge and skill sets of staff members in a manner that will improve quality of work and service at Jackson State University.
Staff Senate President, Dr. Rosella Houston, said the program is designed to develop the competencies most critical to the success of staff members for daily job responsibilities and encourage promotion within the university.
“We were challenged to engage the staff in meaningful training opportunities designed to support the university’s goals,” Houston said. “This new and exciting program will not only promote innovation and self-awareness for staffers, but also provide a greater understanding of higher education as a system and how staffers can play a role in elevating Jackson State to new heights.”
The institute’s first class will convene this month and will meet monthly through June.
