Jackson State University announces Tangelia Kelly, Ph.D., as Interim Executive Director of University Communications

[Jackson, Miss.] — Jackson State University (JSU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Tangelia Kelly, Ph.D., as Interim Executive Director of University Communications.

In her new role, Kelly will serve as the Chief Communications Officer of the award-winning Division of University Communications, which includes creative services, digital media, marketing and public relations.

“Dr. Kelly’s appointment is a testament to her hard work and dedication to Jackson State University,” said President Marcus L. Thompson, Ph.D. “Her expertise and strategic approach to communications are critical as we enhance our university’s local and national presence. I am confident in Dr. Kelly’s ability to manage our brand with the same level of excellence she has always demonstrated.”

Kelly, an alumna and seasoned professional with over 16 years of experience in higher education marketing, previously served as the Director of Marketing in University Communications. Her leadership has led to numerous awards and successful marketing initiatives that have significantly enhanced the university’s public profile and digital presence.

Kelly’s appointment is effective immediately.

Kelly received her bachelor’s degree in marketing from Jackson State University and her Master of Business Administration from Belhaven University. She earned her Ph.D. in educational administration and supervision with a concentration in higher education from Jackson State University. She was also named to the Delta Business Journal’s 2023 Top Young Professionals and selected for the Higher Education Leadership Foundation’s Omicron Cohort.

She is a member of several distinguished organizations, including the Leadership Greater Jackson Board of Directors, Junior League of Jackson, American Marketing Association, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., College Public Relations Association of Mississippi and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
