Findings showed that JSU’s School of Social Work performs in the top 45% ranking 142 out of 319. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the field of social work is growing at a rate of 16% over the next decade.

“It is a great honor to be recognized in the U.S. News and World Report,” said Terrell Brown, Ph.D., director of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program. “It is a testament of the strength of our programs, backed by our amazingly dedicated, committed, and talented faculty, students, and staff.”

Jackson State remains the only Mississippi institution to offer the MSW program online and one of two universities to offer a doctoral degree in social work. The School produces graduates who apply their knowledge and skills to improve the urban quality of life in Mississippi, the nation, and the world.

“Great things are happening at Jackson State’s School of Social Work! We will continue toward the mission of producing technologically-advanced, diverse, ethical, global leaders who think critically, address societal problems, and compete effectively,” Brown shared.

The rankings were computed solely from the results of peer assessment surveys completed by deans, other administrators or faculty at accredited degree programs or schools. The survey was administered between fall 2023 and early 2024 and had a 43.7% response rate.
