(JACKSON, Miss.) – Jackson State University (JSU) announces the hire of Tershuna Bass as executive director of the JSUOnline Department. A JSU alumna, Bass brings seven years of notable experience in instructional design and educational technology to the institution.
JSU’s Associate Provost Brandi L. Newkirk-Turner, Ph.D., expressed confidence in Bass’ innovation and leadership.
“With remarkable experience in online education, course design, management, and andragogy, Ms. Bass brings a wealth of knowledge that will elevate online teaching and learning here at Jackson State. Her infectious enthusiasm for online education aligns perfectly with our strategic plan’s commitment to expanding access and ensuring academic excellence,” said Newkirk-Turner. “I am confident that her leadership will strengthen our online programs and create dynamic, high-quality learning experiences for our students.”
In her role as executive director, Bass will lead the development, evaluation and management of online and blended/hybrid courses and other instructional delivery related to faculty and student support services. She will also implement the university’s distance education strategic plan and oversee the trajectory of the online programs.

My focus is on supporting faculty with tools and resources to create inclusive, engaging, and high-quality online learning experiences,” said Bass. “By working collaboratively, I look forward to enhancing the department’s offerings and ensuring all students feel connected and supported throughout their educational journey.”
Additionally, Bass will collaborate with JSU faculty to enhance online programs, prioritizing student satisfaction, retention and success as demand for distance learning grows.
Bass is a master-certified Quality Matters Reviewer with instructional design and educational technology experience ranging from designing, developing, evaluating and maintaining high-quality course materials.
