Jackson State University and the Mississippi Film Institute present the 4th Annual Mississippi International Film Festival at the Davis Planetarium in Jackson, Miss., at 201 E Pascagoula St., Oct. 25-27, 2013.
International and domestic indie films from around the world will be screened each day, with many of the filmmakers on hand. All films shown both Friday and Saturday at the festival, and all acting, filmmaking and scriptwriting workshops are free to the public. Films will show between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26. Workshops start Saturday at 11 a.m. and will run until early evening.
Friday night, Oct. 25 will feature the “RED CARPET” event in the Planetarium Lobby at 6 p.m. There will be a tribute to the Mississippi Film Commission’s 40 years of service on the Planetarium stage at 7:30 p.m. The 1975 Mississippi shot film “The Premonition” will be shown at 8 p.m. The film’s Director, Robert Schnitzer, will speak about the film and it’s shooting in Mississippi back in 1975. There is no charge to attend.
Saturday night, Oct. 26, MIFF will hold its annual masquerade party and contest, the “Zombie Ball,” inside the Planetarium Lobby with prizes for the best costume. Entertainment will be provided in the lobby with a cash bar and food available. Films will continue inside the theater during this time. There is no charge to attend.
Sunday, Oct. 27, the MIFF 2013 closes with the annual Awards Brunch at the King Edward Hotel on Capitol St., at 11 a.m. Tickets to the Awards Brunch are $15 per person.
