JSU announces alumna Ashley Tanksley as Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management

Jackson State University has named Ashley Tanksley Assistant Vice President of Enrollment Management. A native of Meridian, Mississippi, Tanksley will help advance the university’s overall enrollment goals while helping to oversee the admissions, recruitment, financial aid and registrar offices, including strategic enrollment communication. 

“I am honored to return home to Jackson State University and be an asset to our student community by helping to implement processes and strategies that will enhance our recruitment, retention, financial aid, and admissions processes,” said Tanksley. “I am committed to making a meaningful impact that will benefit our entire institution. It is my pleasure to serve the university that has given me so much, and I look forward to contributing to its continued success.”

Tanksley’s career in higher education took off at Meridian Community College (MCC), where she started as a Recruiting Coordinator and swiftly rose to the position of Lead Recruiting Coordinator. Her dedication and expertise in student enrollment and engagement earned her a promotion to Director of Admissions. In this role, she also served as the School Certifying Official for Veterans Affairs and the Primary Designated School Official for International Affairs, showcasing her versatility and commitment.

During her five-year tenure at MCC, Tanksley’s innovative approach and proactive mindset significantly improved the enrollment management processes. Her focus on recruitment, admissions, and student support services, coupled with her dedication, led to substantial outcomes and process improvements.

Tanksley also served as Director of Admissions at Delta State University, where she was soon appointed Interim Vice President for Admissions. In her interim role, she further expanded her leadership experience and expertise in higher education administration.

Tanksley earned a Bachelor of Science from Jackson State University, a master’s degree in higher education from the University of West Alabama, and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education degree focused on higher education at Delta State University.
