JSU Mass Communications Day 2015 was filled with honors for today and hopes for the future as students in the College of Liberal Arts were feted with awards and promises of a transformation from a department to a school.

For their contributions, students were presented with awards by JSUTV, WJSU-FM, Gage Enterprises, The Blue & White Flash and TigerTV.

Dr. Elayne Hayes-Anthony, director of the JSU Department of Mass Communications, says the faculty and staff will help students succeed with new state-of-the art equipment, including video cameras and teleprompters for the campus’ closed-circuit television station, TigerTV, which will get a new set design to provide 24-hours-a-day quality programming.

Also, Hayes-Anthony said, “We will institute a national and local internship program for students in their hometowns. As well, there will be a job placement service.” She said, students, faculty and staff can expect support from an advisory board, as well as from local and national media to help the school become a model for the nation.

As for other awards, departmental recognition included highest GPA; Distinguished Student Award; Grad Student Award; The Timothy Brown Award; the Howard Lett Service Award; and honors for marketing, media production and multimedia journalism.

In addition, honors were presented to members of the student chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
