College Hill Baptist Church is planning a JSU Day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, for the students, faculty, staff and administration of Jackson State University.
Students, student organizations, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni are invited, says Pastor Michael T. Williams.
The connection between the university and the church, located near the campus at 1600 Florence Ave. in Jackson, is long and deep, Williams notes.
“College Hill’s relationship with Jackson State began in 1907, when land was donated by Jackson College for our church to be built,” he said. “One former JSU president, Dr. B. Baldwin Dansby, served as a deacon at College Hill. The late Dr. Joseph H. Jackson, for whom the College of Education building is named, also was a member of College Hill.”
“We have numerous JSU alumni, students, faculty, staff and retirees who are a part of College Hill,” Williams added. “We are family, and we pray that we will continue working together to positively impact our community.”
Keonte M. Turner, Student Government Association president and Anissa C. Butler, Miss Jackson State University, are scheduled to attend, among others, he said.
