JSU grad wins American Chemical Society award

Whitney Quinn

Whitney Quinn, who completed her undergraduate studies in chemistry at Jackson State University, won the 2012 undergraduate award in Inorganic Chemistry from the American Chemical Society.

Quinn began her undergraduate research work in the laboratory of Dr. Hongtau Yu, chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. She later joined the research group of faculty member Dr. Alamgir Hossain. Her undergraduate research included the synthesis of new molecules for the binding of hazardous anions.

Based on her undergraduate research, Quinn presented her work in several professional scientific meetings and also published one peer reviewed paper in the International Journal.

This fall, Quinn started pharmacy school at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
