The Jackson State University College of Science, Engineering and Technology will host the National Research Symposium “Pathway to the Ph.D.” with speaker Art Hicks, Ph.D., from the National Science Foundation Feb. 7-8, at the Mississippi e-Center @JSU.
The event is spearheaded by the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSMAMP), which includes eight alliance institutions of higher learning in Mississippi: Alcorn State University, Jackson State University, Hinds Community College, Mississippi State University, Mississippi Valley State University, Tougaloo College, University of Mississippi, and University of Southern Mississippi.
Hicks will deliver the keynote address during the luncheon at 12:15-1:30 p.m. Feb. 7.
The aim of the National Research Symposium is to provide participants with opportunities to gain new knowledge, to showcase faculty mentored research being done by students, to expose students to nationally renowned scientists and engineers, and to publicize the myriad opportunities for minority students to pursue graduate degrees and careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It also serves as a forum for collaborative and interdisciplinary communication among various programs, such as: Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (CBCB), Center for Excellence in STEM Education (CESTEME), Centers of Research Excellence in Science & Technology (CREST), Research Initiative for Scientific Enhancement (HBCU-RISE), Minority Access to Research Careers (MARC), and Partnership for Research & Education in Material Science (PREM).
