JSU professor contributes to ‘Encyclopedia of Sustainability’

Dr. Evandro Santos

Dr. Evandro Santos, assistant professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning in the School of Policy and Planning, is a contributing author for the Berkshire Encyclopedia of Sustainability. The entire collection will be released on Oct. 31. Santos has written four articles, three of which appear in Volume 8: “The Americas and Oceania: Assessing Sustainability,” and one that is featured in Volume 10: “The Future of Sustainability.”

The encyclopedia as a whole provides complete coverage of what today’s readers need to know about sustainability, from the theories and practices that have shaped and challenged our concept of what is sustainable, to industries as diverse as pharmaceuticals and mining that impact it, and to methods and measurements, such as life cycle costing and material flow analysis, that assess sustainability’s progress and chart its future.

The creation of an encyclopedia of this nature brought together a unique global network of experts in business, law, environmental history, ecosystems and resource management, ethics and philosophy, and other related disciplines. Santos is the only Mississippi author who contributed to this huge work.
