The Hercules Scholarship is named after radio show host Tom Joyner’s father, the late Hercules Joyner, who was a strong supporter of higher education.

This week’s student is:

Claude Davis Jr.

Grade Point Average: 3.8

Hometown: Harvey, Ill.

Major: Accounting

Class: Freshman

Career Goal: Become an accountant for a Fortune 500 company

Comment: My post-graduation plans are to work for the company I have an internship or co-op with, or work for a Fortune 500 company, so I can be a successful accountant and financially well off. I am a member of the accounting society and I play intramural basketball. The most influential people in my life are my mother and father. I live by the motto: You can do anything you set your mind to. I am 18 years old from Chicago, Ill.

To be a candidate for the scholarship, students must be male, attend a Foundation “School of the Month,” have a grade point average of at least 3.5, and be a campus leader involved in the community with a career goal toward making a difference in the quality of life for his race.
