JSU students Mason Bracely and Andrew Thomas were selected once again by the Jackson State University Development Foundation (JSUDF) to receive the Annie Willie Scholarship. The Dr. Maya Angelou Foundation awarded $12,000 to the JSUDF to distribute evenly among both students for two years. The Annie Willie Scholarship is only awarded to students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
Thomas is a transfer student majoring in Mass Communication. He says, “Words can’t explain how grateful I am for this scholarship. Prior to this assistance, I had to take loans out just to help pay for my classes and books. With the help of the JSUDF, I am forever grateful and honored. It feels great to have resources especially during these hard economic times. I’d like to thank each and every person who was and is involved with the scholarship foundation. Blessings to each and everyone of you.”
The Foundation criteria for students receiving the scholarship is as follows:
- One general scholarship
- One scholarship to a physically-challenged/mobility-impaired or re-entry student
- Student must have a financial need for this scholarship
- Student must also maintain a passing grade average at JSU
Both students had to reapply and were awarded the scholarship based on their academic achievements.
