JSU turns up the volume with national TV commercial

Jackson State University is airing a new national television commercial to bring greater awareness to the capital city’s booming urban institution.

With record enrollment for three consecutive years, the university decided to extend its reach to U.S. audiences with a top-notch promotional commercial that will be ubiquitous on many networks, including BET, Family, MTV, OWN and VH1.

“This commercial will expose JSU to millions of viewers,” said University Communications’ interim marketing director Ashton Hall. “Even with our steady growth, we still want potential students to keep us at the top of their minds so that they will know Jackson State offers an array of opportunities and flexible academic schedules for traditional and non-traditional students. Aside from the main campus, we have several other facilities such as JSU Downtown, the Madison campus as well as many online programs.”

“We’re showing that JSU is a growing part of our community. We’re telling the story that JSU is more than just an HBCU that embraces longstanding traditions but also one that is just as comprehensive as the state’s other larger institutions of higher learning.”

The commercial already has been favorably viewed by football spectators during this season’s first two games in Tennessee. Its home-game debut will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, when the Tigers host Texas Southern.

Hall says more surprises are in the works, with a special commercial planned for JSU’s homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
