The Polling Center at Jackson State University’s Institute of Government (IOG) has released a national survey of 1,051 adults. The poll was conducted March 3 – 10, 2017.
The latest national poll conducted by the polling center surveyed Americans on their personal fears and anxieties.
Among the findings:

Government corruption, terror attacks, economic collapse, death of a loved one, violent crime and Islam also strong anxiety producers

Majority, 56.4%, say too many Americans rely on biased media for political decisions
Americans surveyed were asked to think more personally and describe their greatest fears in an open-end format question.
Leading the anxiety were concerns over jobs/wages and the economy (16.0%); the Trump administration (13.0%); healthcare insurance (12.0%); crime/violence/guns (12.0%); and government polarization/corruption (8.0%).
Mentioned somewhat less frequently, anxieties were caused by paying for college/education (4.0%); immigration (4.0%); liberal policies (3.0%); loss of freedom (2.0%); LGBT issues (2.0%); terrorism (1.0%); and the environment (1.0%).
In a closed-end opportunity, 20 issues, policies or scenarios were named within the poll. Respondents were asked to report the degree each represented strong fear or anxiety for them personally.
Leading the list were government corruption (56.4%); terror attacks (54.5%); economic collapse (48.1%); death of a loved one (46.8%); experiencing violent crime (44.4%); Islam (44.3%); ID theft (44.1%); personal financial difficulties (43.7%); illness/sickness (43.7%); big government (41.9%); the press/media (41.7%); and racial and ethnic minority issues (40.2%).
Other issues, policies or scenarios that caused somewhat less anxiety or fear: liberal policies (37.5%); conservative policies (35.2%); voter fraud (34.6%); white population rights/status (34.5%); your own death (33.4%); how Democracy has evolved (32.9%); minority population growth (28.4%); and sexual identification (28.1%).

METHODOLOGY: The poll sampled opinions of 1,051 approximately proportional to state population contribution nationwide. The survey was conducted March 3-10, 2017. All surveys were conducted using an online survey instrument. The poll has a +/- 3.0 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level on a composite basis.
