Jackson State University’s Executive Director for Communications and Marketing Maxine Greenleaf has been honored by The Mississippi Business Journal with the Top 50 Under 40 Award. Considered one of the state’s most prestigious awards, it highlights individuals who have made significant contributions to Mississippi’s overall economic progress.
“I thank God for blessing me with such an honor,” says Greenleaf. “It is a great privilege to be recognized among my peers throughout the state of Mississippi.”[hr]
The Itta Bena, Mississippi, native spent four years as the director of communications and marketing at her alma mater Mississippi Valley State University. Prior to serving in that role, Greenleaf worked as the director of public relations for the Leflore County School District. She began her career in public relations at Mississippi Valley State University as a communications specialist. The Top 50 Under 40 award recipient has an extensive resume demonstrating her involvement in numerous civic and community activities.
“Throughout my career, I’ve tried to make sure I have an opportunity to tie community service commitments into my work,” says Greenleaf. “So far, I’ve been lucky to do so and make an impact.”
Greenleaf has been a member of Rotary since 2011 having served as president, president-elect, vice president and sergeant at arms for the Rotary Club of Greenwood. Next year, she will be in her third year as an assistant governor for Rotary – District 6820. Greenleaf is currently a member of the Rotary Club of Jackson, where she serves as a reader at Barack Obama Magnet School and membership recruitment chair.
Additionally, she holds membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated – Beta Delta Omega Chapter and Gamma Beta Phi. Greenleaf has also served as president of the Greenwood Leflore Young Professionals, a former board member for the United Way of Leflore County and former member of the Greenwood-Leflore Chamber of Commerce. She is currently completing her term as president of the College Public Relations Association of Mississippi.
In addition to being selected as Mississippi Business Journal Top 50 under 40, Greenleaf was previously chosen for Greenwood Leflore Young Professionals’ Young Professional of the Year, Top 30 Under 40 by the Greenwood Commonwealth, Leadership Greenwood, and numerous other awards.
Greenleaf earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Mississippi Valley State University and a master’s degree in mass communication and journalism from Kent State University. She is currently enrolled in the higher education doctoral program at the University of Mississippi.
