Jackson State University’s Mississippi Urban Research Center (MURC) will host a health forum titled “Improving Health in Mississippi: Challenges, Barriers and Opportunities” that will address issues and discuss ways to improve Mississippi’s health system.
The forum will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 28, inside JSU’s downtown campus.
MURC recently published a research brief with findings indicating Mississippi faces bigger challenges than any other state on health care coverage, health-care expenditures, health-care facilities, health-care workforce and health-care access.
The two-hour forum will bring together health professionals, health educators, community presenters, public health researchers and policymakers. They will discuss those challenges, barriers, opportunities and innovative approaches to improve Mississippi’s health outcomes.
The following panelists will speak on potential solutions to macro- and micro-related health issues impacting Mississippi:
1.) Dr. Sheila Davis, moderator
2.) Dr. Mario Azevedo, dean of the College of Liberal Arts
3.) Dr. Mohammad Shahbazi, interim dean of the School of Public Health
4.) Ella Jackson, Executive Director for Abundant Living Community Organization
5.) Janice Sherman, CEO for Primary Health Care Association
6.) Falasha Reed, head nurse at G.A. Carmichael Family Health Center
