The Jackson State University Division of Athletics recently honored its student-athletes during the 2016 All-Sports Banquet at the JSU Student Center Ballroom.

Before a crowd of more than 400 spectators, JSU’s star student-athletes received awards for stellar performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. Dr. Tamika R. Bradley, interim associate dean in the College of Education and Human Development, served as the guest speaker.

“I’m excited to celebrate in your accomplishments and each of you is most deserving,” Bradley said.

Bradley, who is also a former track and field standout at Jackson State asked the crowd “do you know who you are?” She said, “I sat here where you are 20 years ago and I did not know who I was. But there is something to be said for growth.”

She went on to share words of wisdom saying, “What you say is what you see. What you see is what you sow and what you sow is what you reap. What you reap is who you are. What you are is what you yield. What you yield is what you get, and what you get is what you deserve.”

Director of Athletics Wheeler Brown provided the closing remarks for the night.

“I want to thank our student-athletes for their hard work this year,” Brown said. “Hard work is what we are about in the Division of Athletics. “I want to thank the Tiger Fund for sponsoring this event, and I would like to offer special congratulations to our SWAC Championship teams (Volleyball and Bowling).”

“We want to continue to raise the bar each and every day. We are going to take this conference back. When someone talks about the SWAC, Jackson State will be the first name off their lips.”
