Jackson State University welcomed residents of Tiger Plaza, an exclusive living community for upperclassmen, Saturday, Aug. 24.The plaza, located in downtown Jackson on Greymont Avenue, is less than three miles from the main campus and has 120 rooms and 240 beds.
The university has invested thousands of dollars into the facility’s renovation. Rooms are furnished with twin beds and wardrobes and have private bathrooms and WiFi.
All rules and regulations outlined in the Student Code of Conduct will apply. The meal plan students have selected will remain the same, and a frequent shuttle service will allow students to dine on campus. Shuttle buses will run from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The location also gives students access to JATRAN buses, which is free for JSU students. Also, several downtown areas restaurants, including Wendy’s and Domino’s, will accept the JSU Supercard (for a complete list of Supercard locations, download the JSUgo mobile app on your Android or Apple device).
Tiger Plaza houses male and female students in separate sides of the building connected by a breezeway.
JSU Campus Police and Residence Life staff monitor Tiger Plaza 24 hours a day. Additionally, the Jackson Police Department has set up a district around the plaza for ongoing patrol.
I will visit the location sat. to assist any student with their move-in since they will be going thru extra changes. Someone visited already and stated it is real nice, they have JSU all over the place, can’t wait to see it. Great job JSU staff.
This is a great concept and also additional exposure for JSU as we connect more to the downtown Jackson area. With the high level of security and police presence, I’m confident that the students’ safety will be a priority.
Kudos JSU!
My Alma Mater
I think they should let students know sooner than Monday because some students may already be making the preparations to move in to their assigned dorms and if they get selected to move into the new dorms they will have to re-move their stuff. And I’m wondering how will the students get notified? But I think it’s kind of cool, but for someone like me who constantly forgets things, living off campus isn’t too ideal. This picture looks like a room from Campbell Hall though.
I wish we had this when I was on campus. Congratulations!
Good job Jsu..I know the feeling of not be assigned a dorm. Good way to “not forget” about students who need housing.
That is a great idea but I think some type of living arrangements should be made to students who are parents as well.
Now that’s EXCELLENT news! My J-State is definitely coming up!
I think that’s a great experience, but you all should consider making some single rooms for the upperclassmen as well. I doubt you would want to move way off campus just to still have not have the option of a single room. Very nice though
