University Communications at Jackson State University was recognized by the Southern Public Relations Federation (SPRF) for outstanding work in the field of public relations during the Lantern Awards ceremony held Oct. 1 at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Miss.
Awards, including Certificates of Merit, Awards of Excellence and Lantern Awards, were given in 25 categories. University Communications received 10 awards.
The awards were given for a variety of projects, publications and campaigns completed by a team of individuals from various departments within University Communications. Team members include Eric Stringfellow, Executive Director; D’Artagnan Winford, Art Director; Jean Gordon Cook, Director of Public Relations; Pamela Berry-Johnson, Marketing Manager; Jamea Adams-Ginyard, Assistant Marketing Manager; Shelia Byrd, Media Relations Specialist; Shameka Reed, Marketing Consultant; Tommiea Jackson, Photography Services; Spencer McClenty, New Media Coordinator; Gina P. Carter-Simmers, WJSU General Manager; Keith Collins, JSU TV Station Manager; Antonio Smith, JSUTV Assistant Production Manager; and Ashanti Ishakarah, former JSU TV programmer/promotions coordinator.

The Southern Public Relations Federation is a network of public relations professionals from Alabama, north Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi who share a common interest in the public relations profession.
University Communications uses print, broadcast, multimedia, social media and marketing channels to convey clear and consistent communication about the university’s achievements and the JSU experience. University Communications also supports academic and administrative departments in such areas as internal communications, event promotion, media relations, graphic design, photography, videography and social media.
