Jackson State University’s Net Impact students are competing in a campaign sponsored by Up to Us, which is a U.S. campus competition to combat the long-term national debt.
Up to Us aims to foster awareness about the debt, including its effect on economic opportunities.
Net impact is a nonprofit organization that empowers a new generation to use careers to drive transformational change in the global workplace.
Also, the Up to Us competition among the nation’s top universities aims to generate the most successful campaign and is sponsored by the Clinton Global Initiative University and the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. The Up to Us team hosts a qualifying event for the competition “My Two Cents Day,” in which JSU was ranked first in the social media category to date.

Up to Us campaign events are scheduled through Feb. 21, and students involved require campus-wide support and exposure for success.
The Up to Us team includes JSU students Lotfi El Jai, Anissa Hidouk, Amara Knott and chapter president Lufat Rahman.
The goal of this nonpartisan campaign is to increase awareness on campus about the national debt. Jackson State is the only university in the state with a Net Impact chapter.
The campaign also provided students an opportunity to travel to the 2015 Net Impact Conference in Seattle, where they had the opportunity to interact with other teams throughout the nation and hear from one of the speakers, Chelsea Clinton, vice chair of the Clinton Foundation, which is one of the campaign sponsors.
Net Impact will host a panel about the national debt on Wednesday, Feb. 10, in the College of Business Building, Room 134. Panelists include Dr. Jean-Claude Assad, a JSU associate professor of economics; Dr. Kenneth Russ, a JSU associate professor of marketing and director of business graduate program; Dr. Maury Granger, a JSU professor of economics; and Drew Maddox, a Senate budget officer with the Mississippi Legislature.
