The Jackson State University Department of Art is showing “Impermanence,” an exhibition by Alabama artist Kathryn Jill Johnson, through March 5.

“Her mixed media works combine drawn images with layers of color and abstract marks,” said JSU gallery director LaNeysa Harris. “The works present a fractured narrative that suggests both humor and pathos.”

The free exhibit is on display at the Johnson Hall Gallery Mon. – Fri. 9am to 5pm.

Kathryn Jill Johnson is an artist and associate professor of Painting and Drawing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She received her B.A. from the University of South Florida and a M.F.A. from the University of Georgia.

Johnson has exhibited nationally and throughout the Southeast including group exhibitions at the Tennessee Valley Museum of Art, University of Montevallo, and the ARC Gallery in Chicago. She has mounted solo exhibitions at the Lowe Mill Arts Center, the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and the Firehouse Gallery in Georgia to name a few.
