The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning through Wednesday, Jan. 17 for Central Mississippi, including Jackson, Mississippi. As a precaution, Jackson State University will continue virtual instruction and telework on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The safety of the JSU Family remains our priority. We strongly discourage travel to the university or venturing outside of your residence halls during this time. We urge essential staff and residence hall students to take caution as they walk on the campus. Students that are unable to return to campus at this time, due to weather conditions in your current area, please reach out directly to your professors for next steps regarding class participation and assignments until you are able to safely return to JSU. We will continue the measures below to ensure the safety and health of our faculty, staff, and students. Please adjust accordingly. |
Essential Employees Essential employees in departments vital to campus safety and building maintenance (Public Safety, Facilities Management, Food Service Personnel, and Contractors) will need to report to work as normally scheduled. Additional faculty and staff whose positions have been identified as essential will be contacted by their supervisor if required to report to campus. Please check all modes of communication (telephone, email, and text.) If you are identified as essential and unable to report to campus due to extenuating circumstances, please contact your immediate supervisor before the start of your shift. Students Students, please check your JSU email or Canvas for instructional continuity plans from your professors. Also, please note that you must complete registration as required. Information regarding virtual registration and bill-pay instruction is below. Students currently living on campus should stay inside until the winter weather watch subsides. Please report any housing issues to your Community Assistant or Community Director immediately. Bottled water is also available at every residence hall. Please contact your Community Assistant or Community Director if more water is needed. Facilities Management is on standby to replenish as requested. Keep a supply of bottled water available also. Make plans to stay off the roads. If you must drive, make sure you have an emergency supply kit in your car. Prepare for power outages. Have flashlights with batteries on hand, and keep your cell phone and other electronic devices charged. Have blankets to help you stay warm. Dress for the weather: Wear several layers of loose-fitting, lightweight, and warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing. Wear mittens, which are warmer than gloves. Wear a hat. Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs. |
