Recently, Michelle Boyd, on-air personality for Jackson’s local urban music station, WJMI won the Radio Room BET Award.  Boyd is affectionately known as Chelle B by listeners across the metro Jackson area and beyond. Boyd is also the marketing associate for University Communications at JSU.

“I am blessed. Growing up, I always wanted to work for BET,” says Boyd. “In 2012, I served as an intern at the network’s headquarters in Washington, DC.”

Boyd received this award for her contribution and partnership through broadcast and promotion of the BET Experience and BET Awards Radio Room. Boyd has worked this event for the last four years.

“Radio and BET are two things that I absolutely love, so to experience the best of both worlds has left me feeling immensely blessed. And for BET to recognize personalities from other markets and myself for our contribution is beyond amazing.”

Each year, WJMI affords Boyd the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles to broadcast from the BET Experience. Weeks prior to this event, Boyd is responsible for a vast amount of promotion.

“From social media posts (station and personal pages) and on-air promo (LIVE and voicing commercials), to judging month-long BET Experience Freestyle Rap Battles, the BET Awards/Experience is indeed just that- an experience.”

She continues, “When I step into the Radio Room, it is a jungle for lack of better words. It’s a blessing, enjoyable and exhilarating, yes, but most of all, it’s a lot of work. From the likes of Bishop T.D. Jakes, Warryn & Erica Campbell, T.I., The Game, LisaRaye, Robin Givens, Larenz Tate, Laz Alonso and Fantasia, just to name a few, I give my all to get such talents and more to grace the airwaves of Jackson, MS.”

Boyd credits her program director, Stan ‘Da Man’ Branson for believing in her from the beginning.

“Outside of loving my job and what I do, that’s one of the reasons I work as hard as I do.  I not only want to make our station look good wherever I go, but also want to make him proud. He is always shedding knowledge, encouraging me, and keeping me grounded and aware in this crazy world of entertainment. He is truly ‘Da Man’.”
