JSU retirees feted at special celebration

Jackson State University honored retiring faculty and staff earlier this semester in a special celebration held in the Student Center. The keynote speaker for the event is also a JSU retiree. Dr. Gwendolyn Spencer Prater, founding dean of the School of Social Work, founding dean of the College of Public Service and dean emerita at Jackson State retired in 2011.

Prater said that she is pleased to have left two endowed scholarships to support JSU students upon her retirement, one for public service and the other for social work.

President Carolyn W. Meyers and Dr. Evelyn J. Leggette, provost and senior vice president for Academic and Student Affairs, were among those expressing gratitude to the retirees for their years of service to the university. Vice president for Research and Federal Relations, Dr. Loretta Moore, presided over the celebration. The following is a list of the 2015-2016 retirees:
