Documentary producer, Pulitzer winning journalist on JSUTV

Two stars of The Trotter Group meeting were on JSUTV’s popular morning show  “Metro Morning Live” on Wednesday. But don’t despair if you missed it; the show can be watched online.

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and former Newsday editor Les Payne was interviewed by host Rob Jay while co-host Maura Moed interviewed Actor/Producer Tim Reid.

On Tuesday, Reid told students that black journalists must tell their own story. He challenged journalism students to “be radical,” quoting W.E.B. DuBois that “all art is propaganda” and Malcolm X that media “control the minds of the masses.”

Reid owns his own film studio and produces documentaries.

Payne, a founder of the National Association of Black Journalists, revealed facts about the life of Malcolm X based his upcoming (as yet unnamed) book out next fall.

“Metro Morning Live” show’s is produced live at 7 a.m Monday through Friday at the Mississippi e-Center@JSU on Raymond Road.

Comprised of top columnists and opinion makers, the Trotter Group gathers once a year to discuss current events and ensure important local, regional and national black stories are told.

The Trotter Group met at JSU through Wednesday.
