Jackson City Council honors Miss JSU Deja Knight

Miss JSU @ City Council-1-2City Councilwoman LaRita Cooper-Stokes and the Jackson City Council honored Miss JSU 2013-14 Deja Knight in the council chambers on Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Knight was born in Jackson, Miss., but raised in Dallas. The 21-year-old senior is a computer science presidential scholar and a W.E.B. DuBois Honors College student. At Jackson State, Knight has been an active member of both the JSU Dance Ensemble and MADDRAMA Performance Troupe.  She has been involved in the Student Government Association since her sophomore year, and in the spring semester of 2012, she became a member of the Gamma Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

As Miss Jackson State University, Déja’s platform is “Race to Excellence.” Her vision is to encourage students to be leaders and to give back to the community.
