Jackson State will host its fifth annual Day of Giving on Friday, May 31, inviting alumni, students, staff, and friends to contribute to any specific area of their choice. The 24-hour fundraising challenge is an online, social media-driven effort that supports the University’s students and programs.
“For the past five years, this campaign has evolved into a vital fundraising vehicle for Jackson State,” says Monica Lewis, manager of Annual Giving. “Funds from the Day of Giving Campaign enable our institution to sustain and give deserving students a chance to receive the ultimate JSU experience.”
This year’s financial goal was increased to $150,000 after last year’s campaign exceeded the initial target of $100,000 by raising a total of $111,320. Of that $111,320 raised, the University’s faculty and staff contributed 20% proving that they are invested in the mission and vision of their employer. Funds from last year’s campaign were primarily used for the JSU Student Emergency Fund and any other designation chosen by the donor.
Financial gifts of any amount are welcome and will be impactful for current and future students. Each contribution will also count toward the Millions of Eyes on Excellence Campaign through the Jackson State University National Alumni Association, Incorporated.
“I give because I want to help someone who maybe the first in their family to attend college,” says Bobbie J. Wilson, JSUNAA’s MS Regional Board Member. “I also give because this might be the only monetary assistance they have that will help complete their registration process. Lastly, I give because I love my Dear Old College home.”
On May 31, there will be an opportunity for all donors to join teams and participate in challenges. Everyone is encouraged to invite others to give and spread awareness of the initiative online by using the hashtag #give2JSU.
