Farshad Amini, Ph.D., professor and chair in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, believes initiatives such as Engineering Week encourages lifelong learning in students providing them with the communication and critical skills needed to maximize both knowledge and experience within the engineering field.
“Here, at JSU, we are always trying to identify opportunities to connect our students to industry partnerships through these programs, which will host events like ERDC Day and Entergy Day,” said Amini.
Several of the companies attending next week’s events include the Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) and energy company Entergy. As part of their robust ongoing commitment toward investing in HBCUs, corporate partners will be onsite, providing students with industry knowledge via guest lectures where they’ll cover an array of topics, including steel structure designing, data structures and algorithms, water/wastewater treatment, as well as business law and business communications.
Jacqueline M. Jackson, Ph.D., interim department chair in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science, pointed to the zeitgeist of today’s society recognizing awareness week such as this not only creates space to honor what has been accomplished but also takes critically analyzes societal complications and innovation can play a vital role in solving these issues moving forward from today.
“National Engineers Week provides us with an opportunity to celebrate and reflect upon the accomplishments of the field. We are in a pivotal time in history,” said Jackson. “Now more than ever, we need the innovation, creativity and imagination engineers bring to the world.”
