The Jackson State University Music Department, division of Choral Activities & Vocal Studies, congratulates soprano vocal performance major Tiffany Williams.
Williams placed first in the National Soloist Award Competition. This competition was sponsored by the 105 Voices of History National Choir. The award had a monetary value of $2,500. The competition was held June 29 in Washington, D.C.
Williams competed against four other finalists at the Washington National Opera Studio.
“Tiffany represented Jackson State University in exemplary form,” says W. Cortez Castilla, Director of Choral Activities and Coordinator of Vocal Studies.
The competition featured a national panel of judges including Steven Gathman, Chorus Master and Head of Music Staff for the Washington National Opera; Stanley Thurston, pianist, composer, conductor of symphonies, operas and choruses; Duane A. Moody, Associate Professor of Music at Berklee College of Music; and Musician 1st Class Casey Elliott, Musical Director of the U.S. Navy Sea Chantlers.
