JSU honors top student-athletes at ‘Breakfast of Champions’

(JACKSON, Miss.) – The Jackson State University Division of Athletics held its first annual “Breakfast of Champions” event to honor its scholar student-athletes who earned at least a 3.0 grade point average through the summer of 2012. A total of 82 Tigers and Lady Tigers were recognized during a breakfast ceremony Feb. 14 in the JSU Student Center Ballroom.

The guest speaker for the event was JSU’s interim provost Dr. James C. Renick.

Student-athletes from each of JSU’s 18 sports teams are represented on the cereal box. The team breakdown is as follows: baseball (9), men’s basketball (3), women’s basketball (2), bowling (5), football (24), men’s golf (2), women’s golf (1), women’s soccer (6), softball (6), men’s tennis (2), women’s tennis (3), men’s track (10), women’s track (4) and volleyball (5).

Of the 82 student-athletes, five recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA, 24 finished between the 3.5-3.99 range and 53 recorded between 3.0-3.49.

Each student-athlete received a commemorative Wheaties – Breakfast of Champions cereal box featuring a group photo of the scholars.
