Reaffirming her support of the academic enterprise at the core of Jackson State University’s mission, Dr. Carolyn W. Meyers is engaging with faculty in a series of meetings with each of the University’s colleges.
“Your work has value beyond all measure. Your work not only changes individual lives – it changes the fate, the trajectory of entire families,” Meyers said to members of the College of Business faculty in an open forum held on Monday, Sept. 8. She thanked faculty for, “… choosing this profession, this hard work and remaining dedicated to Jackson State and to our students.”
Touting the student body, Meyers said, “This freshman class has a bit of ‘swagger’ about it. They are happy to be at Jackson State; excited about their futures. This is entirely due to you for the extra ordinary lengths you go to in helping our students succeed.
We know that many of our students come to us underprepared with all kinds of issues. You embrace them, support them, make demands of them and ultimately give them the skills and the confidence they need to succeed,” she added.
In a wide-ranging question-and-answer session, Meyers addressed a number of faculty concerns including salary compression, the focus of the university’s legislative agenda and the ongoing importance of growing the university’s endowment.
