Dr. Galina Bennett, director of University Academic Advisement Center, has been elected to a leadership position within the National Academic Advising Association: The Global Community for Academic Advising for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
“I am honored to be selected to serve on behalf of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and most importantly, Jackson State University,” said Bennett. “This is a great opportunity to learn, share, and lead with other student success leaders, who find value the importance of academic excellence through academic advising.”
NACADA was chartered as a non-profit organization in 1979 to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to ensure the educational development of students. Since then, the organization has accumulated more than 10,000 members. Members consist of faculty members, professional advisors, administrators, counselors and others in academic and student affairs.
“In this role, I will be responsible for leading the efforts of the Advising Community Division for Historically Black College and Universities,” Bennett said. “Our intentions are to recruit and support other HBCUs in effectively advising students, researching innovative approaches to advising and identifying key strategies that lead to better student experience and overall university success.”
Bennett will also serve NACADA during the annual conferences, sponsored sessions, and annual reporting.
