waynegoodwinJackson State University’s Associate Vice President of Facilities and Construction Management, Wayne Goodwin, was honored as a Hometown Hero at the 21st Annual Hometown Hero & Summit Awards Program and Reception by the Jackson Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The Hometown Heroes program was designed to publicly express appreciation to community individuals who bring meetings, conventions, group tours, successful festivals, and events to our city as well as recognize outstanding front-line tourism professionals.

To qualify as a Hometown Hero, one must represent excellence in the industry.  This honor recognizes the combined economic impact of meetings and inbound tours driven, which generate millions of dollars for the local economy.

In 2011, Jackson State University hosted the 2011 SRAPPA (Southeastern Regional Association of Physical Plant Administrators) Annual Conference in Jackson, Miss., under the leadership Goodwin.  As a result, Goodwin was nominated as a Jackson, Miss.,d Hometown Hero

“The success of the 2011 SRAPPA Annual Conference could not have been accomplished without the support of Dr. Meyers who trusted us to carry out an event of this magnitude,” says Goodwin.  “Also, I am extremely grateful for the hard work and selflessness put forth by my staff and the vendors who diligently worked with them.”

“Additionally, I am thankful to the city for the kindness and graciousness they showed our guests.  As the capital city, we were able to display to our guests the epitome of what it means to be the hospitality state, and I am thankful for that.”

SRAPPA is a professional educational organization for physical plant administrators.  Goodwin now serves as the SRAPPA president.  One of his primary goals as president is to increase participation among HBCUs within the SRAPPA organization so they may have the opportunity to transform and elevate their institutions to more inviting and supportive learning environments.  SRAPPA is a chapter of APPA, and they share the vision of their parent organization which is to maintain, protect, and promote the quality of educational facilities.
