Jackson State University celebrates Honors College Week starting Monday, April 20, to acknowledge the academic excellence of honors students at Jackson State University.
The week’s premier event is the Honors and Awards Convocation on Thursday, April 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
“Classes will be cancelled on that day between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to allow faculty, staff and students the opportunity to attend the Honors and Awards celebration,” said Dr. James C. Renick, provost and senior vice president for Academic and Student Affairs. “We are asking faculty to participate and encourage students to attend the Honors and Awards Convocation.”
“To honor and recognize the outstanding achievements of our students, the administrators and faculty are requested to wear regalia for this formal academic event,” Renick added. “The bookstore has made arrangements for one rental fee for regalia. Regalia can be picked up prior to this convocation and returned after May graduation ceremony.”
The convocation’s keynote speaker is Jackson attorney Trent Walker. A native of Brandon, Walker is a graduate of JSU, where he received both a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration. He earned his law degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. Owner of his own law firm, Walker has served as a special Circuit Court judge in Hinds County.
